As part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Principality of Monaco's Diplomatic Mission in Spain, the Embassy of Monaco is continuing its programme aimed at highlighting the historical ties and the excellent relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain.
One of the highlights of this commemorative year is the travelling exhibition "Monaco and Spain: Five Centuries of Shared History." Through a selection of archival documents, works of art and heritage objects, the exhibition traces five centuries of political, diplomatic, cultural and scientific relations that have shaped the ties between the two countries.
The exhibition was inaugurated in Madrid on 1 June 2026 at the Villanueva Pavilion of the Real Jardín Botánico, in the presence of Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, and Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco.
On the occasion of this visit, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, accompanied by His delegation, held a working meeting with His Majesty King Felipe VI, during which the excellent relations between the two countries were reaffirmed. The Sovereign and His delegation were also received by Mr Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of Spain. These meetings reflected the high quality of the political dialogue and cooperation between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain.
Following its presentation in Madrid, the exhibition continues its tour. It is currently on display in Seville, where it was inaugurated on 22 June at the headquarters of the Cajasol Foundation, in the presence of its President, Mr Antonio Pulido Gutiérrez, and representatives of the Andalusian institutions.
The exhibition will next be hosted in Palma de Mallorca at the Club de Mar, before travelling to the Central Library of Santander. Its tour of Spain will conclude in Barcelona this autumn.
