Entry and residence formalities for Monaco
Foreign nationals wishing to stay in the Principality for less than three months require a passport, and in some cases a visa – which are necessary to enter French territory.
Nationals of the European Economic Area
Nationals of the European Economic Area and associated States do not require a visa to enter Monegasque territory. They only need to carry a passport or a valid identity card.
The European Economic Area and associated States: Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Spain (including the Balearic and Canary Islands), Estonia, Vatican City, France (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion), Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal (including the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores), Czech Republic, Romania, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar), San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland.
Nationals of countries outside the European Economic Area
Nationals of countries outside the European Economic Area wishing to visit the Principality of Monaco must be in possession of a valid passport and a visa for the Schengen area.
Consequently, requests for visas to enter Monegasque territory must be made to the Embassy of the country of the Schengen Area that will be the entry point for a stay in Europe. Once a Schengen visa has been obtained, a visit to the Principality can be made with no additional formalities.
For stays of less than 90 days, some nationalities are exempt from the requirement to have a visa to enter the Schengen area.

By plane
The Principality of Monaco is situated 22 km from the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport, i.e. 25 minutes by motorway or 7 minutes by helicopter.
The Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport is France's second airport after Paris, and serves more than 86 foreign destinations.

A direct motorway shuttle service links the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport with the Principality of Monaco.

By helicopter
With Monaco Heliport, the "Nice Côte d'Azur" International Airport is only a 7-minute flight from the Principality, with a departure every 20 minutes on scheduled flights.

It is possible to carry out, from Monaco, all the registration formalities for national flights and most international flights, departing from the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport. Similarly, travellers can check in for Monaco from the main foreign airports.

By car
The Principality can be reached:
- By the A8 motorway:
- Exit 56 for Monaco in the France -> Italy direction
- Exit 58 for Roquebrune Cap Martin in the Italy -> France direction
- As well as by:
- The Basse Corniche along the coast
- The Moyenne Corniche (D6007)
- The Grande Corniche (D2564)
By train
All the international trains stop at Monaco station.

The Regional Express Trains (TER) make it possible to reach Nice (France) or Ventimiglia (Italy) in 25 minutes, with a train every 15 minutes at peak times.

By bus
Ligne d’Azur's routes 100 and 110 link Monaco with Nice and Menton, with a bus every 15 to 30 minutes and several stops in the Principality: Place d’Armes, Rainier III Outdoor Swimming Stadium, Tourist Office, Place des Moulins, Fontvieille, etc.
