Diplomatic relations with Spain

The Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain have maintained official diplomatic relations since 2 June 1876, the date on which the legation was established. The legation was attached to Monaco’s legation in France until June 1945.

The post of Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary was held by:

The legation was elevated to the rank of embassy on 30 November 1990.

Representation of Spain in the Principality of Monaco

Diplomatic relations:

Le 11 October 2013, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince gave his approval to the appointment in the Principality of H.E. Don Carlos Bastarreche Sagües, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, resident in Paris.

H.E. Don Carlos BASTARRECHE SAGÜES, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, presented his letters of credence to  H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 13 January 2014, thus becoming the first Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Principality de Monaco.

H.E. Don Carlos BASTARRECHE SAGÜES left the post on 17 May 2014.

H.E. Don Ramón de MIGUEL y EGEA, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, who replaced H.E. Don Carlos BASTARRECHE SAGÜES, obtained H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s assent on 23 June 2008. He presented his credentials on 5 February 2015.

H.E. M. Fernando CARDERERA SOLER, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, who replaced H.E. Don Ramón de MIGUEL y EGEA obtained H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s assent on 19 July 2017. He presented his credentials on 30 October 2017.

Consular relations:

Spain’s first Consul in the Principality was Mr Joseph Maistre, who was authorised to act as Honorary Consul on 28 March 1908.

The Kingdom of Spain is currently represented in the Principality by Honorary Consul Mr Michel Boeri, who was accredited on 16 June 1986.

Spain’s new Consul General in Marseille, Mr. Guillermo MARTINEZ-CORRECHER GARCIA DE LOS SALMONES, took up post on 4 August 2016. He has not yet requested accreditation in Monaco.
