On 5 July 2022, the Embassy of the Principality of Monaco in Spain celebrated the anniversary of H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s accession at the Club Financiero Genova in central Madrid.
H.E. Ms Catherine Fautrier-Rousseau and her husband welcomed nearly 200 guests, including numerous ambassadors, senior officials from Spanish ministries and institutions, several representatives from international
organisations based in Spain and executives from major Spanish companies.
Monegasques and friends of Monaco living in the Madrid region, as well as members of the Prince Albert II Foundation’s Board of Directors, were also invited to the event.
In addition, Monaco’s honorary consuls in Spain attended the reception and were invited to a working meeting with the Ambassador and diplomats the following day.
In her speech, the Ambassador first recalled the longstanding links between the Principality of Monaco and Spain, before noting, in the context of the COVID-19 crisis and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the actions in favour of peace, solidarity and environmental protection taken by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince Albert II, as well as those of his great-great-grandfather in the same areas.
H.E. Ms Catherine Fautrier-Rousseau then discussed the initiatives undertaken by her Embassy in Spain in 2022 to commemorate the centenary of the death of Prince Albert I who was, among other things, behind the establishment of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. Finally, after a toast to the royal family, the guests had an opportunity to sample some Monegasque and Spanish food and drinks, sourced through short supply chains, in a genial atmosphere.
